Mixing FAQ

[pane title=”Who is this service for?”]This service is primarily for anybody who has the individual track recordings for a song but needs help mixing them together to make a completed track.[/pane]
[pane title=”Do I need my song mixed?”]A well mixed song is essential. Mixing is the difference between a ropey sounding demo you want to make excuses for, and a polished sounding track you want to play to everyone.[/pane]
[pane title=”What do you do with my song?”]The important thing is to judge each track individually. There is no magic button to mix a song, so we take the individual tracks and edit any parts that need editing. Then plugin effects such as compression, EQ and reverb are applied to balance the track and form the basic desired sound. When everything is ready, we create a single stereo recording of your track which will be ready for mastering. Of course, we can master your track too if you wish – see the section on Mastering for more information.[/pane]

[pane title=”Is it going to sound better?”]The aim is to make the track sound as good as possible overall, and there are a number of considerations and tests we run to accomplish this. The most likely place for people to hear your music is on the internet, so we mix your tracks with a focus on making them sound as awesome as possible to people who get their music fix online. This means making sure your song sounds as good as possible on headphones and laptop speakers and mobile phone speakers as well as on home stereos and car stereos.[/pane]

[pane title=”What is the process, from start to finish?”]After you fill out the enquiry form or contact us about a mixing project, we will agree the work you need and offer a quote. If you accept the quote, we’ll need you to provide us with the individual tracks for the song and then we’ll provide you with a completed mix. You can post the original tracks to us if they are on CD or we can arrange for them to be uploaded if you have .wav or .mp3 files.

If you want further tweaks to be made, we discuss your requirements and send updated versions of your track until you are satisfied.[/pane]

[pane title=”How much will it cost?”]The amount we quote you is the amount you pay, regardless of how long the mixing takes and inclusive of any further tweaks. We set a price according to the details of the job you provide us and what we think it will entail after we have spoken with you, rather than charging you per hour.

We feel this is the fairest way of doing business, you pay us an agreed fee upfront for the work and we do the job however long it takes us – this way, you don’t get hit with any extra charges if the job takes longer than anticipated and you won’t feel like you might be shortchanged because you can’t possibly know how long we actually spent on your song.[/pane]

[pane title=”I still have questions before I submit an enquiry.”]Please visit the Contact page to get in touch with us directly.[/pane]
